FARGO (KFGO) – Fargo Police Chief David Zibolski says his department has a plan to start cracking down on street racing, loud mufflers, and dangerous driving in the city.
“Those individuals or groups who continue to participate in exhibition driving, speeding, racing and/or driving vehicles that have illegal or loud exhaust systems cause safety and quality-of-life issues for all of us,” Zibolski says.
Zibolski will address these concerns with the city commission at their June 10 meeting when he presents a plan that includes seizing vehicles and declaring them a public nuisance.
Zibolski also says the number of drivers who don’t comply with traffic stops is on the rise. Last year, Fargo Police conducted 8,829 traffic stops, but 256 drivers refused to stop.
Zibolski is calling for higher fines for traffic violations and for the legislature to pass a law requiring vehicle owners to identify the driver of a fleeing vehicle.
