ST. PAUL, Minn. – Gov. Tim Walz and Democratic leaders say they’ve agreed on the framework of a supplemental budget for 2024-25.
The supplemental budget takes into account that the state’s projected surplus has increased to $3.7 billion.
The announcement late Friday of the $477 million supplemental budget deal came just four days after the governor announced his recommendations, totaling $226 million.
“[It’s] a responsible, thoughtful agreement that maintains a balanced budget while funding our state’s most urgent needs,” Walz says.
House Republican Minority Leader Lisa Demuth says Democrats are ignoring a looming budget deficit in 2026-27 and, instead of getting spending under control, are increasing it at an even more unsustainable pace.
