FARGO (KFGO) – All residents of an apartment building in south Fargo have been displaced after a fire Saturday morning.
Fire crews were called to 2551 Villa Drive S. around 10:45 a.m. after smoke was reported coming through the floor of a third floor apartment. Firefighters could see smoke coming from a third floor unit and the roof of the building.
Crews found fire in the ceiling space above a second floor unit that had spread to the third floor and the attic. Firefighters were able to put the fire out within 20 minutes, but because of the damage, all the residents of the 24-unit building were finding other places to stay.
Madison Reiser is one of those residents. She said had just woken up when the fire alarms began to ring.
“I realized we had to get out, so I frantically packed up my cats and necessities and called my best friend,” Reiser said. “There was a lot of smoke in the hallways. This was really scary.”
The City of Fargo said most of the residents will stay with family and friends, but the property managers and Red Cross are available to help find places to stay for anyone who needs assistance.
Most of the damage is in two apartments and the hallways of the second and third floors. There is also water damage on the first floor. Damage is estimated at $80,000.
The cause is under investigation.
