WINONA, Minn. – Baseball isn’t usually known for being a winter sport in Minnesota, but this year’s warm weather has changed that a bit. The baseball team at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota will be getting their season started this weekend.
Many college teams in cold climates start playing in February but usually do so in places like Florida or Texas. St. Mary’s is taking advantage of this year’s unusual weather by starting play at home in Winona. The team started practice outdoors a few weeks ago and planned to play its first games on Sunday and Monday.
The team played its first home game last season in late March.
