FARGO (KFGO/KVRR) – Members of the Air Force gave students at Fargo South High School a look inside a helicopter Thursday, right in the school’s parking lot.
The Huey helicopter came from the Minot Air Force Base as part of the Aviation Inspiration Mentorship Program called ‘Pet the Jet.’
According to Col. Steven Muhs with the Fargo Air Force JROTC, this is a great opportunity for the students to see a helicopter up close, and get them interested in joining the military. He said recruiting has been declining.
“The job market is hot right now,” Muhs said. “Anytime the job market is really hot and unemployment is really low, the military is not a primary job source for people. Over my 27 years in the Air Force, when the job market was hot, recruiting was tough. When the job market isn’t hot, then a lot more folks are looking for the military as a potential career.”
The helicopter is currently heading to North Carolina.
