WEST FARGO (KFGO) – A person is dead after taking their own life during a traffic stop Sunday.
According to the West Fargo Police Department, officers conducted a traffic stop at Veterans Boulevard and 26th Avenue S. around 11:30 a.m. The stop was related to a domestic dispute and came after officers had spoken with the car’s passenger Saturday evening.
After officers stopped the vehicle, the driver got out and was briefly detained, but the passenger stayed in the car despite officers’ commands.
As officers continued to try to convince the passenger to get out of the car, the passenger pulled out a gun and fired a fatal, self-inflicted shot.
Veterans Boulevard divides Fargo and West Fargo. A section of 26th Avenue S. was briefly closed after the incident.
The incident is under investigation.
