MANDAN, N.D. (KFGO) – The Highway Patrol says four students were hurt in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon on their way back to Mandan High School.
A 16-year-old girl was driving an SUV on 8th Street NW near 5th Avenue around 1 p.m. and lost control after the vehicle hit a patch of ice. The SUV jumped the curb, crossed a boulevard, two sidewalks, and 5th Avenue before hitting a tree and retaining wall.
One of the passengers, a 16-year-old girl who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, suffered a serious, but non-life-threatening injury. She was taken to CHI St. Alexius by ambulance.
A 17-year-old girl, 18-year-old woman, and the driver all suffered minor injuries, and were taken to the hospital by private vehicles. The 16- and 18-year-olds were wearing seat belts. The Highway Patrol says they don’t know if the 17-year-old was wearing a seat belt.
The crash is under investigation.
