STANTON, N.D. (KFGO) – A judge has continued bail at $500,000 cash for the son of US Senator Kevin Cramer, who’s charged in the death of a Mercer County deputy during a police pursuit.
Ian Cramer, 42, of Bismarck, appeared from a courtroom in Stanton while the judge hearing the case was in a Mandan courtroom.
Cramer is charged with homicide in the death of deputy Paul Martin on Dec. 6. Cramer was driving an SUV that he had stolen from his mother in Bismarck hours before Martin was struck. Martin was behind his patrol vehicle after he deployed a tire deflation device.
Deputy Martin was 53 and a 15-year veteran of the sheriff’s office.
Cramer faces a total of 9 counts, including possession of cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana.
Senator Cramer, in a statement the night Martin died, said his son has struggled with mental health issues.
