SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KWAT/KFGO) – A U.S. District Judge in South Dakota has sentenced a Fargo man to federal prison after he was convicted on charges of abusive sexual contact. The sentencing took place on earlier this month in Aberdeen.
32-year-old Bryant Elliot DeCoteau was sentenced to be incarcerated for 10 years, followed by 10 years of supervised release. He was indicted for sexual abuse by a federal grand jury in December and pleaded guilty to abusive sexual contact in July.
According to court documents, in January of 2018, and continuing through December of 2019, DeCoteau knowingly engaged in and attempted to engage in sexual contact with the victim.
This case was investigated by the FBI and the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Sioux Tribe’s Law Enforcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremy R. Jehangiri prosecuted the case.
DeCoteau was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to continue serving his sentence.
