FARGO (KFGO) – Lend A Hand Up presented a check for $42,441.66 to the Fargo Police Department’s Leadership Care Fund Tuesday afternoon.
Sgt. Samuel Bollman is the president of the fund. He said it was originally set up before the tragic shooting in July that claimed the life of officer Jake Wallin as a way for department personnel to help officers in need.
After the shooting, when the community was rallying around the Fargo Police Department, and with the fund in place, they decided to accept the help. Money was raised by cash, check, and online giving. There was also a wristband campaign set up by KFGO, and a grant from Lend A Hand Up’s 20% Boost grant.
Bollman said seeing an officer killed in the line of duty is hard for everyone, but having the support of the community makes it a little bit easier to process.
“When you drive around at night and see the blue lights on the front of homes, or see people wearing the blue ‘WeAreFargoPD’ bracelets, or someone stops you in the grocery store and gives you a handshake, it helps a lot to know that we’re not really in it alone. We’ve got everyone behind us,” Bollman said.
