ST/ PAUL, Minn. – A jury has found a St. Paul police officer guilty of unconstitutionally using deadly force against Cordale Handy, 29, in March of 2017.
Handy was shot and killed by police during a domestic violence call, after he raised his gun at two officers. Both officers, Nathaniel Younce and Mikko Norman fired their guns and Handy died at the scene.
While both officers’ use of force was found justified in December 2017, a jury on Monday found Younce violated Handy’s constitutional rights.
Handy’s family was awarded $11.5 million in damages, including $1.5 million in punitive damages.
“Justice delayed does not mean justice denied,” Handy’s mother, Kimberly Handy-Jones, said.
