FARGO (KFGO) – Fargo Police have released details on how the public can participate in Wednesday’s public celebration of life service and escort route for Officer Jake Wallin.
The celebration of life, scheduled for 1 p.m. at Scheels Arena at 5225 31st Avenue S. in Fargo, is open to the public. Doors open at 11 a.m.
“We want to honor the family and do a celebration of life, and would love people to show up,” Mayor Tim Mahoney said. “It shows you want to honor and thank him for his service to our community. I think the family has been overwhelmed by how much people show support and love, and I think this is another way we can show how much we love Jake and thank him for his service.”
No backpacks, purses, or bags will be allowed in the area. There will be a basket for cards inside the main entrance. Memorial flowers are due to Scheels Arena by 5 p.m. Tuesday.
A virtual event program will be available Wednesday morning.
Prior to the celebration of life, the public is encouraged to line up along the escort route which begins on the east side of Police Headquarters, located at 105 25th Street N. at 11:45 a.m. From there, the procession will travel south on 25th Street to I-94 where it will head west.
The procession will exit the interstate at 45th Street and head south to 32nd Avenue, where it will turn west and travel to Seter Parkway on the southwest side of Scheels Arena.
After turning onto Seter Parkway, the procession will continue to 55th Street S. where it will wrap around to the north side of the arena.
Police are asking that the public avoid joining the escort for safety reasons.
