ST. PAUL, Minn. – A new statewide campaign intends to raise awareness about the increasing number of vehicle thefts in Minnesota.
“A lot of auto thefts that occur in the state are because somebody left their keys in the car,” Assistant Commerce Commissioner Jacqueline Olson said. “I was shocked by (that) because you don’t think of that being one of the reasons cars get stolen, but it’s a big reason.”
Olson said the campaign slogan is “Take Your Keys ALWAYS.”
According to Olson, more than half of the 16,000 vehicles stolen in Minnesota in 2022 had the keys inside.
