ST. PAUL, Minn. – The state Department of Commerce is recommending Minnesotans review their homeowners’ or renters’ insurance coverage, with spring flooding expected in many areas.
Deputy Commissioner Julia Breier said a lot of people don’t realize their policy does not cover them for flood damage. She said you can check with your current insurance company or the National Flood Insurance Program.
The Insurance Federation of Minnesota said flood insurance policies won’t pay claims for any damage that occurs the first 30 days they’re in force.
