MOORHEAD (KFGO) – The Moorhead City Council has decided to delay a decision about whether to approve a conditional use permit for a new nightclub.
The Classic Touch Lounge opened last month at 1500 11th Street North and has had complaints from residents living in the neighborhood. Police are also in the midst of an investigation after more than 20 gunshots were fired near the nightclub early Saturday.
Jason Ness lives nearby and is among those who are concerned. He said he supports all businesses in Moorhead, including the nightclub. However, he said in the past several weeks there have been noise and parking complaints, and – most recently – gunshots. Ness said he’s not yet seen anything positive in his neighborhood.
City Council member Deb White said this is complicated. She wants to support local businesses in Moorhead, but she’s also conscientious of the concerns of neighbors.
There are 19 conditions required for the new business. They include closing times, fencing, security, and a maximum nightclub occupancy of 300 people. Council members and the co-owners of the nightclub are working on solutions and meeting the requirements needed to remain open.
It’s expected the city council will make a decision at a meeting in several weeks.
