FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (KFGO) – The employees involved in a shooting at a boat manufacturing company in central Minnesota Thursday morning had several verbal disputes in the months leading up to the incident.
According to court documents, the victim of the shooting, who was not injured, told a detective that he and the man accused of shooting at him, David Gadsden, have worked together at Brunswick Boat Factory in New York Mills since November of last year. During that time, the two have talked only a few times and been in a couple of verbal altercations.
The victim told the detective he asked Gadsden, 21, a work-related question when Gadsden became angry and started yelling. The victim turned away from Gadsden and asked another employee the question, which appeared to make Gadsden angrier.
The second employee answered the victim’s question and then approached Gadsden to ask what was wrong. According to the victim, that is when Gadsden pulled a pistol from his waistband and put a round in the chamber.
Gadsden walked toward the victim and the victim moved to a different part of the building and toward the door to escape. Gadsden chased after him and eventually fired a shot at the victim.
The victim was able to get out of the building when Gadsden shot a second time. The victim told the detectives he thought one of the two shots hit him.
According to the detective, there was a six-inch hole in the victim’s shirt near the ribs.
Gadsden has been charged with a number of felonies including attempted murder, assault, and discharging a firearm with harmful intent.
