BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. – A Salvation Army worship and service center in Brooklyn Park was broken into, vandalized, and intentionally set on fire Thursday night.
The service center’s chapel suffered damage. The fire was contained with the help of the building’s sprinkler system.
The service center was getting ready for a winter coat distribution for needy families, which was supposed to have taken place today.
Security footage shows the man piling a chair and new coats onto a pew in the chapel and lighting it on fire.
In addition to the fire, the man broke most of the building’s windows and vandalized the office areas and portions of the food shelf.
A man familiar to law enforcement was taken into custody at the scene.
