BISMARCK (KFGO) – Former 2018 Miss America, the first contestant to win the title from North Dakota, Cara Mund, has announced her bid for office.
Mund interned for Senator John Hoeven in 2016, and she graduated from Harvard Law Cum Laude earlier this year. Mund received the 2022 Kristin P. Muniz Memorial Award, an academic award that recognizes a graduating student who has demonstrated an exemplary dedication to client-centered representation in criminal courts and has focused their efforts on racial justice and equality, respect for human dignity, fairness, diversity, and compassion.
The 28-year-old Bismarck native announced yesterday, “On the 57th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, I am proud to announce that I am seeking to be North Dakota’s first female in the U.S. House of Representatives.” To be placed on the November General Election ballot, Mund needs the signatures of 1,000 qualified North Dakota electors.
“I am so proud to be a North Dakotan,” said Mund. “It would be an honor and a privilege to represent the people of our state in Congress. I am ready to get to work and look forward to putting North Dakotans first.”
Incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Kelly Armstrong and Democrat Mark Haugen also are on the November general election ballot.
