FARGO (KFGO) – Wednesday’s shooting at a Fargo restaurant is a reminder of the times we live in and the reason metro-area law enforcement agencies conduct active shooter training for area businesses. A woman and her baby were shot by the child’s father who later shot and killed himself in Clay County south of Hawley, Minnesota.
Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner says his department has been conducting active-shooter training for three years in partnership with the Fargo and West Fargo Police Departments and Essentia Health.
Jahner says the training class will mentally prepare people and give them some ideas on how to keep safe.
Jahner says when stressful situations like the recent shooting happen, people always revert back to their training. If they don’t have the training, they’re going to freeze and he says “that’s not a good response, a lot of people get hurt.”
Any businesses that are interested in active shooter training can contact the Cass County Sheriff’s Office at 701-241-5800.
