CHERNIHIV, Ukraine – A Minnesota native is among the Americans killed in Ukraine at the hands of the Russian military.
Witnesses say people were standing in line for bread yesterday morning in Chernihiv, a town about 80 miles from Kyiv, when Russian troops opened fire. It’s not known how many were killed, but one of them was 68-year-old James Hill, who graduated from Mahtomedi High School.
Hill’s sister said the biggest thing the family is struggling with now is not even knowing where his body is.
She said her parents raised them to see the good in people’s hearts and that her brother did not think the world would let something like this happen.
Hill documented the last few days of street fighting in Ukraine on his Facebook page. He was a psychologist and lecturer who worked in Europe for 25 years, many of them in Ukraine. There are reports that Hill was trapped inside the hospital, and had left the building to gather food and water for others.
