I moved here from Wisconsin back in May. While Wisco can have some bad winters, I was warned to brace myself for a North Dakota winter. I don’t think one really can understand (or appreciate) a winter in North Dakota without going through one. Well, this morning was a testament to that statement! LOL. Never have I seen blowing snow like that in my life. Road crews can’t keep up fast enough to clear the roads, especially with the blowing snow. My car was really burried this morning and kinda left me stunned just looking at mother nature’s fury. Thankfully for some awesome neighbors were helping folks get their cars unburied. I’ve also never experienced sub zero temps on top of having a snow storm.
Sooo… What’s my take away from my first official winter storm here? I’ve started coming up with a check list to be prepared for an ND winter..
- Buy snow pants (heck really warm clothing for that matter!)
- Always keep a shovel in your car
- Always make sure there is food cabinets in the winter (at least a loaf of bread)
- Try to find a place to live that has a garage haha!
- Take city streets (if you even can). Highways will be shut down.
