MINNETRISTA, Minn. (KFGO) – The Minnesota Vikings say defensive end Everson Griffen is safe and ‘getting the care he needs’ following a 14-hour standoff at his home Wednesday.
Minnetrista Police said Griffen called 9-1-1 early Wednesday to report that someone was inside his house. He told the dispatcher he fired a weapon, but nobody was injured. Griffen also posted texts and a video holding a gun.
He was barricaded in his home all day and police say the situation ended peacefully. The Vikings said in a statement, “Our focus remains on Everson’s health and safety and providing the proper resources for him and his family.”
Griffen has dealt with mental health issues in the past. In 2018, he missed five games.
