HASTINGS, Minn. – Plans to build a new 145-million-dollar wastewater treatment plant could open the door to new development along the city’s downtown riverfront.
City officials say having the current plant at its location isn’t optimal. It’s been there for 66 years. The new site would allow for future expansion and will start up with more than four times the current capacity. When the current site goes offline, that riverfront property could be home to new apartments and businesses.
The new plant could be in operation by 2027.
