FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – Monday, the Fargo City Commission takes up a recommendation with a consulting company for the expansion of the Civic Center Parking Ramp adjacent to the Radisson Blue Hotel downtown.
City Strategic Planning Director Jim Gilmour says if approved, one additional level of the ramp will be built at an estimated cost of $2.8 million. It would be paid for with the proceeds of the recent sale of the city-owned Island Park parking ramp to Bell Bank for more than $9 million.
Built in the 1980s, The Civic Center ramp was constructed to add another level. It can add 68 additional parking spots. There are 250 parking spots on the existing ramp. The additional parking could bring in another $100 thousand in net income annually with very little increase in the operating budget.
Gilmour says other parking ramps in the downtown core are near or filled now and more parking space is needed because of new residential housing and more businesses.
Design and bidding could be done on the ramp expansion in January with construction to start in April with the additional parking space ready by September.
