FARGO (KFGO) – Police Chief Dave Todd shared an emotional post on the department’s Facebook page thanking his family, the community and the men and women who have served alongside him as the group “OneFargo” held a rally marking his retirement outside police headquarters.
“Thank you to the people in our community, who rallied around us when we needed it most and finally and very importantly, thank you to the men and women of the Fargo Police Department. We have been through the lowest of lows and the highest of highs, but what is most important and most valued to me, is that we’ve done it together,” Todd said in the recorded statement.
One Fargo hosted the rally to again voice their concerns about Todd and the department and the decision of the city commission, which named Deputy Police Chief Ross Renner interim police chief while an attorney general’s office investigation is underway into how the department handled the May 30 protest and downtown riot.
“Chief Todd has been the leader of the Fargo Police Department for at least the last five years, so he definitely plays a huge role as the leader in the direction of the police department and how it operates,” said “OneFargo” organizer Wess Philome.
About a dozen people also showed up prior to the rally to celebrate Todd’s retirement and thank him for his nearly 33 years of service.
Street department barricades were in place outside the police station on 1st Ave. and 25th N, but the event remained peaceful.
