The United States will last. It’s too strong for 2020 to take her. It doesn’t matter what has happened to us so far. We’ll come out of it.
Just a little history to help you remember.
So far, the nation has been forced to face a pandemic. One that will go on for quite some time. Shutting down our economy and taking us deeper into recession. A recession where millions of Americans wake up each day unemployed, and thousands of businesses find themselves with store fronts that will never open again.
Then, a murder engulfs us. Three police officers take a black man’s life. Two watch while another kneels on his neck for 8 minutes until his breath is gone.
All of this caused the nation to explode. Peaceful and private protests used to show our underbelly. We are still a nation divided by color.
Then the nation finds out that it’s Commander in Chief ignored intelligence that a bounty was put on our soldier’s heads. Multiple news sources reported that the Russians paid the Taliban for each American soldier they killed. A prize, if you will, for each terrorist that kills one of our men and women in uniform. All the while our President stood and watched.
But things can change. A vaccine is being developed as we speak. Progress is being made. Enough so that hope is being offered.
Good things can come from something as vicious as a murder. The protests that followed caused self-reflection, forcing a national discussion on who we are and who we need to be. Understanding that no matter what color we are, we can make change happen.
No price is too high of a price to pay to take a look at ourselves. But that’s what it did. If you don’t believe me, just take a look at Mississippi. Even the Republican Governor supports getting rid of the state flag with the Confederacy on it.
And last but not least, elections can undo what they have done. The people of America can vote out Donald Trump. We can fix what we’ve broken. Putting pride back into the highest office in the land. And dignity back to the country we love.
Yes, we’re off to a rough year that’s only half over. One that continues to test us, even in the eyes of the world. But we’re America. We’ve overcome worse than this.
Ask any soldier that hasn’t been sold out.
Good riding with you.
