ALEXANDRIA, MINN. (KFGO) – Six fire departments responded to a fire that has destroyed several buildings in downtown Alexandria.
Douglas County Emergency Manager Julie Anderson tells KFGO News the fire was reported around 5 a.m. Tuesday. She says four buildings have been demolished that were too damaged to save as crews worked to contain the fire.
There were no reports of any injuries or any missing persons. There were about 20 displaced residents who lived in apartments above the businesses who are being assisted by the Red Cross and others.
There were reports that the fire started in or near Raapers Eatery and Ale building and spread to other buildings, but Anderson says investigators are still working to determine the exact origin of the fire.
Fire departments from Alexandria, Osakis, Garfield, Forada, Carlos and Long Prairie responded to the fire.
