JAMESTOWN, ND (KFGO) – A close call for two adults and two children over the weekend. Their tracked vehicle plunged through thin ice on Lake Audubon northeast of Jamestown and was partially submerged.
Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser said the tracked vehicle sank in water five-to-six feet deep about 150 feet from shore. The four were able to crawl out a hatch on the roof of the vehicle and were taken to shore one-by-one by first responders. The four were okay but very cold when checked by an ambulance crew that was standing by.
Kaiser says there’s been water running through a culvert not far from where the vehicle went under which created the extremely thin ice.
The vehicle was pulled from the lake by a tow truck late Saturday.
