BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Dakota Department of Health has received its first report of a severe respiratory illness associated with vaping.
Tobacco prevention and control director Neil Charvat says an 18-year-old woman called the health department Aug. 28 to report she had sought treatment at a hospital after developing symptoms of a respiratory illness associated with electronic cigarettes.
Symptoms have included cough, fatigue, dizziness, headache, vomiting and diarrhea, chest pain, and worsening difficulty breathing.
North Dakota is one of 26 states that have reported more than 200 potential cases of severe respiratory illness from vaping. The health department is asking health care providers to watch for cases of severe respiratory illness and ask about recent vaping and e-cigarette use.
