CASS COUNTY, N.D. (KFGO) – Flooding is increasing across Cass County as warm temperatures speed the run-off . Many county and township roads are being overtopped, in some cases, being washed out. County officials have warned that area’s not considered to have been threatened by floodwaters in the past may see flooding due to the late melt, plugged culverts and the sheer amount of water breaking out from ditches and rivers.
Cass County Sherfff’s Captain Dean Holland, at the county tactical operations center, told KFGO News, early Saturday there was an urgent call for help from residents about 4 miles west of Gardner, near Couty Road 11 and Highway 26, in the northern part of the county who were being swamped by overland flooding.
He says the home’s basement was being washed away which caused structural damage. On-call County Highway Department workers, with trucks, escorted by sherriff’s deputies and state troopers delivered sandbags to the property. Volunteers were already on site.
Holland says many roads in that area are underwater and drivers are urged to be careful. Holland also says national guard soldiers will be in the area this weekend ready to respond to where they’re needed.
Cass County’s flood hotline is now operating around the clock. If you have questions, information about flooding, or need help, call 701-241-8000.
