No more "privilege cards"

ST.PAUL, Minn. (KFGO AM) -- The Minnesota Secretary of State's office says it will no longer issue so-called "privilege cards" to state lawmakers, which some worried might be seen as immunity from arrest if they committed a crime.

State Representative Ryan Winkler applauds the move.

Winkler says the U.S. Supreme court and courts in other states have ruled that lawmakers are not immune from arrest for a criminal offense, even while the legislature is in session.

Winkler's bill to clarify state law passed the house this year but not the senate, and he says he'll reintroduce it next year.
