TIOGA, N.D. (AP) - With North Dakota reaching an oil production level of 1 million barrels per day, officials are holding a celebration in the town where drillers first found black gold in the state.

The North Dakota Petroleum Council was hosting Tuesday's celebration in Tioga. Council President Ron Ness and Gov. Jack Dalrymple were among those scheduled to speak.

The celebration also was featuring World War II-era aircraft and public bus and aerial tours of the area where North Dakota's first producing oil well was located.

North Dakota oil production surpassed 1 million barrels a day in April. Just a decade ago, the state was producing only about 85,000 barrels per day.
