RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Orville the tortoise has turned 108.
Theodore Roosevelt was president of the United States and the Chicago Cubs were in the World Series when the 375-pound Aldabra tortoise was born. He's currently on display at Reptile Gardens in the Rapid City area.
Orville celebrated his birthday Sunday by sunbathing and eating watermelon. Museum spokesman John Brockelsby says watermelon to a tortoise is like eating ice cream.
Reptile Gardens obtained the turtle last year from a private collector in Florida.
Orville still has a ways to go to break the record. The oldest tortoise at the South Dakota tourist attraction lived to be nearly 130.
