BEMIDJI, MINN. (KFGO-AM) - The State Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating a high speed pursuit and fatal shooting Monday afternoon in northern Minnesota.
It started when a state trooper spotted a suspect wanted for fleeing authorities in a pursuit last week north of Bemidji. The driver managed to elude the trooper but was spotted again in Cass County. The chase resumed, hitting speeds over 100 mph on U.S. Highway 2 and ended up back in Bemidji where the man's car was disabled by spike strips. The driver refused commands to exit the car and then officers heard a gunshot and found the man dead.
The BCA says investigation indicates none of the officers fired their guns. An autopsy is being conducted today by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner.
