Most of Highway Patrol class headed to oil patch

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- Gov. Jack Dalrymple says he's sending the majority of the most recent Highway Patrol graduates to the oil and gas counties in western North Dakota.

The governor says 13 of the 15 recent graduates have been assigned for duty in the oil patch.

The Legislature appropriated $3.8 million in funding in 2013 to put additional troopers on the road, primarily in western North Dakota.

Six of the new troopers will be stationed in Williston and two will be in Dickinson. The other five will help patrols in the rest of the oil field counties.

The state has added 20 trooper positions since 2011. Most of those troopers have gone to western North Dakota.

The Patrol held a ceremony for the new graduates Friday at Bismarck State College.
