ST.PAUL, MINN. (MNN) - Minnesota law enforcement officials and first responders now have a new tool to help fight heroin and opiate drug overdoses. This week Governor Dayton signed a bill known as "Steve's law."
Judy Rummler lost her son Steve to a drug overdose in 2011 and has since pushed for the use of Narcan. She says it allows designated people to carry the drug, which she says is very effective.
A second part of the law provides immunity from prosecution for good samaritans who seek medical help for someone suffering from an overdose. The law takes effect August 1st.
