DETROIT LAKES, MINN. (KFGO-AM) -- Former Becker County Sheriff Tim Gordon is facing felony and misdemeanor charges.
The Stearns County Attorney's office has charged Gordon with theft by swindle, presenting a false claim and misconduct of a public official. The charges are the result of the sale of a boat owned by Gordon to the county for an inflated price and the use of false ownership documents.
Gordon, of Detroit Lakes, resigned suddenly in the fall of 2012. He had been in law enforcement for 34 years.
The prosecutor says sheriff's department employees became suspicious about a boat, trailer and motor purchased for the department. They thought it appeared to be old and of poor quality.
