Bismarck bans sale of e-cigarettes to minors

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) --  Bismarck is the latest city in North Dakota to ban the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors, and Williston is likely not far behind.

The City Commission this week banned selling or providing e-cigarettes to people under the age of 18. The ordinance also prohibits minors from using e-cigarettes.

The Williston Herald reports commissioners there have given initial approval to a similar ordinance in that city.

City leaders in Fargo late last year decided to include e-cigarettes in their tobacco ordinance, making it illegal to give or sell them to minors.

E-cigarette inhalers are an odorless, vapor-emitting substitute for tobacco cigarettes. Advocates say they can help smokers quit tobacco, but some health advocates believe the inhalers can get people hooked on nicotine just like cigarettes.
