Fargo city engineer says hybrid version expected to emerge as preferred option for downtown flood protection

Fargo  (KFGO AM)  Fargo city engineer April Walker sats it appears a "hybrid" version will emerge as the preferred option from the four plans now under study for downtown flood protection along 2nd Street.

Walker says there's no hard deadline to make a decision. Engineers are now preparing additional information for city commissioners who will review the plan at their October 12th meeting.

The four options that have been under study range in cost from about $22 million to $44 million.

The city received more than 200 responses on the options in the public comment period that ended Sunday. The base option, which would require a minor realignment of 2nd Street to the west, acquisition of some properties near City Hall and construction of a concrete floodwall with removable pieces along the street had the most support at 37%.
