FARGO (KFGO-AM) - Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says white supremacist Craig Cobb and his supporters are "not the kind of people" wanted in North Dakota. But Stenehjem says protecting the legal rights of Cobb is a difficult task that must still be maintained.
Cobb and his supporters are attempting a takeover in Leith, ND by purchasing several lots. The city council is fighting back by enacting a building moratorium.
Stenehjem tells KFGO News he's quite concerned with what's been going on. “This really is unusual. I think the heightened media interest in all of it really underlines the fact that this is something that’s very unusual. Frankly, these are not the kind of people that we’re encouraging to come to North Dakota. We need to keep a close eye on it and make sure things don’t get out of hand” Stenehjem said.
Stenehjem is providing legal and technical assistance for the city of Leith and Grant county. He says the sheriff has also been assured that his office is available to help.
