"Nashville" Recap: Every Time I Fall in Love

Juliette Barnes just couldn't get away from that married billionaire Charlie Wentworth on Wednesday night's Nashville . After their recent hookup at his anniversary party with wife, Olivia , Charlie ran into Juliette again at the polo match in Nashville. It turns out Charlie is the one who sent Juliette the invitation in the first place, and they bonded in the horse stalls as Juliette sang the very appropriate, acoustic song, "Hypnotizing," with Charlie's guitar-playing stable boy helping her out. The song's lyrics about being a girl ruined when a guy walks in the room seemed to be written just for this situation.

Charlie's wife left the polo match after seeing him getting chummy with Juliette. Thinking Olivia was gone, Juliette met up with Charlie at his hotel to discuss working together on the Music City Music Festival. They ended up having their first project meeting upstairs in bed only to have Olivia make a surprise return to the suite. They didn't see her, but Olivia definitely saw her husband having sex with Juliette.

Rayna James ' plan to use her father Lamar Wyatt 's money to buy out her record label contract fell through now that his assets are frozen thanks to racketeering charges. Rayna and her sister, Tandy , made an appearance at the polo match looking for new donors, but Nashville's upper class didn't want anything to do with the family's racketeering scandal. It looks like Rayna could find a new benefactor in country superstar Luke Wheeler , who made his romantic interest in Rayna very clear on Wednesday night's episode.

Zoey decided to go for it with Gunnar after finding out his ex and her best friend, Scarlett , hooked up with another one of her exes, Avery , again. Avery was hoping for a full-blown reconciliation with Scarlett, but wasn't ready to commit.

On the music front, Scarlett sang a hauntingly beautiful song called "Every Time I Fall in Love" at the Bluebird Café Wednesday night as Gunner ran the sound and Avery worked behind the bar. The song talks about how love that seems so sweet in the beginning can knock you down in the end. For Clare Bowen , who plays Scarlett, "Every Time I Fall in Love," illustrates how much has changed since her character innocently blew into Nashville last season and got a job waitressing at the Bluebird.

Clare says of Wednesday night's performance, "It's in this place that she really used to call home. It was her safe space, and the difference between her position in the beginning and now is paramount, and she's looking at two boys she loved with her whole heart and they just let her down."

Singer/songwriter Sarah Buxton co-wrote "Every Time I Fall in Love" about some of her previous relationships. Sarah has written songs recorded by Keith Urban , The Band Perry and Gary Allan , but there are only so many slots to fill at country radio. That's why she's thankful for Nashville .

Sarah says, "What I love about the show Nashville is that some of the coolest songs that people are going, 'Where can we put it on the radio? How could it get on the radio?' It finally gets heard."

Nashville takes next week off as the 47th Annual CMA Awards take over its Wednesday night time slot on ABC.
