Fargo (KFGO AM) The Kilbourne Group has purchased the historic St. Mark's Lutheran Church that sits on 1.2 acres of land near the Salvation Army in downtown Fargo.
The firm, owned by Doug Burgum, has bought and renovated a number of downtown buildings in the past 10 years. Elna Solvang, a member of the church council, tells KFGO News, Kilbourne’s strong focus on preservation helped make the sale of the 101 year old structure less difficult for the congregation. She said “There is sadness but there is relief turning it over to someone who will care for the building and value the building and find a new use for it."
St. Mark's has spent two years looking at what to do with the aging building and six months ago put it on the market. The sale was finalized Tuesday. Kilbourne group is seeking ideas on use from the public. A large display board will put up outside the church for people to write their ideas and also on the firm’s Facebook page. As St. Mark's considers its future options, it will hold services at nearby Elim Lutheran Church.
