MOORHEAD (KFGO-AM) -- He didn't invent it, but if it weren't for a Moorhead man, there might not have ever been a Dilly Bar. Bob Litherland is credited with making the Dilly Bar famous.

Family, friends, and neighbors are remembering the 91-year old, who died Monday.  Litherland lived on 10th St. near Concordia College.   It's a street where everyone has a flag pole in their front yard. Mayor-elect Del Rae Williams lives on that street and was returning from a city council meeting when she noticed everyone's flags had been lowered. When her husband returned home he told her Litherland had died.

Litherland and his wife Phyllis opened the Moorhead Dairy Queen in 1949 and owned it for 46-years.

In 1955, two Stillwater, Minnesota brothers came to Moorhead looking for help selling their ice cream on a stick which was coated in chocolate. Litherland started selling them, and the Dilly Bar took off from there, becoming a worldwide sensation.

Korsmo Funeral Home is handling Litherland's funeral arrangements.
