MOORHEAD (KFGO-AM) -- Non-tentured and part-time faculty will be on the chopping block at Minnesota State University Moorhead.
School spokesman Dave Wahlberg tells says 19 faculty and two staff members accepted early retirement offers by last Friday's deadline. But that number falls short of the target of 35 needed to erase a projected $8 milllion budget deficit by fiscal year 2016.
Wahlberg says the exact number of layoffs won't be known until the University has a better undertanding of how much the buyouts will save. That information should be avialble within the next week and will be shared with the faculty association so the cuts can be identified.
MSUM'S budget problems are the result of declining enrollment.
