Gary Allan is known for his moody ballads about lost-love, and his latest single, "It Ain't the Whiskey," follows in that vein. The lyrics tell the story of a guy attending an AA meeting to talk about the woman who broke his heart instead of his increasing dependence on the bottle.
Says Gary, "I love, like heart-wrenching songs and songs that really make you think, and they're my favorites. It's a 12-step song, but it's so poignant."
"It Ain't the Whiskey" was a staple of Allan's concert sets long before he put it on his latest album, Set You Free .
"I've been playing that one live by myself," Gary explains, "and we take a break and I just play that acoustically, and we've been doing it forever, way before we cut it. Just a great song. I wish I wrote that one."
Gary Allan's new video for "It Ain't the Whiskey" is now airing on Vevo.
