Dear Garth Brooks, Please Come Back to Country Music!

by Collin Taylor

Over the holiday weekend, I had the chance to expand my waistline, and my CD/DVD collection when I bought Garth Brooks;  "Blame It All On My Roots", a vast collection of covers that influenced him throughout his career.  For me, to say that Garth Brooks is a major influence on me and my life is in itself, a major understatement.  I was a scrawny 10 year old kid when I saved up enough allowance to buy the self titled album; "Garth Brooks" on cassette tape.  Life changed for me that day.  My parents had their country music.  Now, it felt like I had mine.  Needless to say, I wore out that first tape, and would buy and wear out every album that followed from Garth after that.  After watching him perform live twice at the Fargodome back in the 90's, I knew exactly what I wanted to do.  Garth Brooks is the main reason I wanted to write, sing, and perform country music.  Now, 20 years and some change later, I still write, sing and perform in my spare time and sought out a career that would surround me in the music I love, country.

Many years of a great life have happened to me since I first seen him live, but after watching the accompanying DVD of his one man Vegas show, I came to the conclusion that I'm still that 16 year old kid in awe of a master showman who commands an audience with just his personality, voice and guitar.  And if the rumors are true of an upcoming 2014 tour, I, for one will be the first in line to buy a ticket.
